The “Patrouille des Glaciers” is recognized as the largest ski mountaineering race globally, first held in April 1943. Originally created by army captains Rodolphe Tissières and Roger Bonvin of the Swiss Mountain Brigade 10, it aimed to assess and enhance troop readiness in preparation for World War II.
